Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Ok, a new Ashes thread for a new start by the Aussies Let's hope this first sessions is better than the last test's first session
And the words all Aussie males hate to hear...sorry, no Beer What do you think of a 4 bowler pace attack, with Steve Smith as an "all-rounder" spinner?
Working from home today and tomorrow, but had to work hard for it

Oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear!!!!!!!!!
The only 2 batsmen seem to be Hussey and Haddin. I for one was thinking that Hussey poor form prior to the Ashes meant it was nearing time he should go, thank goodness he is still there and scoring runs.
Not sure about having the 4 quicks, lets hope the track does not start turning too much.

Lucky we had the 4 quicks Watzi, they put on 113 runs, where our top 4 "batsmen" put on 31
Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Yeah the tail did a great job of adding runs, but I recon the 4 quicks will give away more runs than they made. I think we are probably going to see how batting should be done on this pitch today *gulp*
In other cricketing news (read trying to distract away from the Ashes), the top billed series between India and South Africa got under way yesterday and SA skittled India, they are 9/136 (a rain interuption during the day) with Styen and Morkel doing the bulk of the damage, have to wait till the SA bats but they where saying the pitch looks good to bat on.

Do you want some sauce with those wordsbut I recon the 4 quicks will give away more runs than they made.
Wow, don't we all owe Mitchell Johnson an apology? What an awesome effort!! When our bowlers put the ball in the right place they do alright
Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Yep, you are right BM. I thought it was all over for Mitchel and he has proved me well wrong , awesome effort and as they keep saying when the poms where 0/78 this morning it was looking all one way traffic.
Now hopefully we can have some great application by the batsmen and set a huge total for them to chase.
The new thread is working wonders.

AWESOME!!!!! My whole body aches from working in the yard from about 5:30 this morning, but I still managed to leap around like an idiot after that last ball of the day So much for sending out a night watchman hey
Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Yep looks like baring some kind of miracle we should even it up. Fantastic day with Watson and Hussey then to get them 5 down and awesome was to end the day.
Anderson did his job as night watchmen, now I guess it is just get Bell out.

Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
He only faced one ball. Collingwood wanted the single on the 3rd ball, but Anderson was leaning on his bat at the non strikers end. he should have been down there facing the last few balls of the day to protect Collingwood tooAnderson did his job as night watchmen
I ain't complaining though, it was great to get Collingwood out
Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Well, that ended quickly. Let's just hope they can carry that form into the Boxing Day test. Maybe a few more of the batsmen can get some runs too? Yes Philip Hughes, Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting, I am looking at you
Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Hmmmmm 3 and a bit days later and the Ashes return to England. Well the Aussies going in with 4 quicks did not work this time.
I will still be very interested in the Sydney test but after this they only play the pajama cricket till August when they then tour Sir Lanka.

Well not the worst start to a test for the Australians this summer but losing Khawaja just before play was suspended was not great. Khawaja had a pretty good debut and the openers showed a lot more grit.
Hopefully we can get the score to 300-350 and make the Poms do some work batting and hopefully when they bat last with a reasonable chase the pitch will turn mightly.

Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Well not quite the score I was hoping for but much better than it could have been.
Big first session tomorrow hopefully we can take a couple of quick early wickets and manage to have a lead going into the second innings. Disappointing no-ball from Beer.

Yeah, been some great cricket played by the Aussies. How good has Brett Lee been bowling? Hopefully Clarke might be getting into some runs in time for the World Cup.
Re: Ashes 2010 - Fresh Start
Terrific innings by Clarke on Wednesday night, just what he and the Australians needed. Never thought they would get over the line till after the batting power play.
Horrible appeal by Prior.
