Indycar 2012

Was almost excited about the start of the Indycar series as I was about the F1 series Missed the first race at St.Petersberg which Castroneves won, but managed to see the Qualifying for Alabama this morning. Geez Will Power copped an average call. Set a lap record in practise, then was on a potential pole position lap in qualifying when they red flagged practise becaus eof a spun car just before he finished his lap. The car that spun wasn't even in a dangerous position! He now starts 9th, which is a bad place to start from around this track. Ah well, let's see how well he does. If anybody can get up for a win from 9th it is him

I don't tend to follow much of the Indy car racing (but I will from time to time check the NASCAR results to see where Ambrose finished).

By what I have read Will did really well in working his way up the field to great win. Did anyone watch?

Well, Aussies qualify 1st amd 2nd at Long Beach, but then get pushed down to 11th and 12th after penalty applied for unauthorised engine change. Mind you, all the Chevy cars (about 11 of them) got the 10 grid spot penalty.

Great drive by Power again to get up from 12th for the win Last race from 9th..this race from 12th..how far back can he start and still win?? Will be interesting to see what happens if he gets to start from pole

Did I also read something about half the field getting a fine for some technical breech?

Yeah, 13 cars got fined for various breaches with regulations relating to brakes, cooling, unapproved parts etc etc. Luckily no grid position penalties.

Only got to watch the Indy 500 when I hot back home to Aus, and was such an emotional race with the dedication to Wheldon before the race, and Franchitti in tears at the end embracing Wheldon's widow.
